Konstrukcja praktycznie nierozbieralna, silnik z mechanizmem napędowym przykręcony 2 śrubami przed zmontowaniem skrzynki - dostęp bez rozbicia drewnianej obudowy lub np. roztopienia miejsca wkręcenia do plastikowej obudowy bębna niemożliwy.

Mam podobnego. Pracuje u mnie rok.

Pozdrawiam

(Note: Sparta by Orbita is highly recommended and Sparta operates differently, please search for the Sparta page to read about it. Sparta is Orbita's Entry Level Easy to Use Watch Winder! Sparta winds every watch with no setting or fretting at all, most Sparta models operate on batteries, and Sparta by Orbita guarantees standard discount store batteries will last up to 2 years!) For your first watch winder Sparta is hard to beat! If someone is clumsy or not mechanical the Sparta Deluxe Winder Boxed in Beautiful Mahogany or Burl is the only choice!

Some information about types of Watch Winders. You read the brands now you need to understand the slight differences in winder structure.

1. Pay attention to programmability. The more valuable your collection the more important this is! (Though not as important as the industry lets on.)

2. Pay attention to power source. Battery Powered or Electric Powered or both? Battery life on the winders we sell are from 6-8 months for all brands but Sparta, on Sparta Winders batteries will last 2 years or more. Other brands on the market will burn through batteries like wild fire, with average life of 3 months or less...You get what you pay for. Printers are similar either cheap up front with expensive ink or expensive with cheap ink, you choose your poison in life!

3. Pay attention to fully versus partially programmable winders. Programming for turns per day (TPD) and programming for direction. Some winders like the Sparta Winders are "smart winders" that is they wind the watch correctly with out having to set the winding direction or turns per day. Fully programmable means you can set both direction and turns per day. This means you will never overstress or over wind your valuable watch collection! Orbita makes fully programmable winders as does Buben and Zorweg, Eilux however only allows for directional programming which is more than sufficient. Watch out for cheap winders that just spin the watch all day!

4. Pay attention to Watches per winder head and motor. This is really only an issue for "Cheap Winders" because the motors and rotational axles can not take the weight. It is a common trick to put 2 winders on a winder head, but it will break a cheap winder!

5. Noise of operation. Will it be in your bedroom?

6. Looks. You will pay more for a prettier winder. If you do not care you can save a lot. (Sometimes you can buy a scratch and dent model on clearance and save huge!) You will pay more for a covered box, even more for glas viewing. Vanity rules.....

7. Warranty. 1 year is all you need. Warranties are to cover the quality assurance team, (their over sights I mean! if the thing is going to break it will in the first 3 - 6 months. Otherwise the winders we carry will work for a very long time. All our winders have at least one year warranties. Longer warranties generally mean problems tend to arize and the manufacturer wants to keep it quiet. (I call these throw away winders. Because the manufacture has you ship it back, they throw it out and then ship you a new one. They do not even try to fix it! I have seen "throw away winders" with "life time" warranties, but the cost of shipping it back and forth soon makes it cheaper for you to throw it away and buy an Eilux or Orbita or Buben! As an aside, 3-5 years ago Wolf used to have a "life time" warranty, but after they improved their winder motors they switched to a 2 year warranty. Note that back when they had the generous warranty they had a much poorer product. Recently they have made remarkable improvements! I can not even recall the last warranty claim we heard about from Wolf. I would have recommended them but only had good, better and best to work with! They are good winders.)

-------------------------------------------------------- A note about Buben Winders, Buben employs the use of a 2 watch per winder head watch winding strategy. Except for Buben and a few select Orbita Models I would run from a 2 watch per winder system. Why? Well because you absolutely must keep the winder head balanced or it will wear at an angle and your winder will stop working within months. Most people do not use these 2 watches per head winders correctly and they end up eventually buying a quality winder from us. Buben and Zorweg put so much money into the parts that even misused they run for years, the same holds for Orbita Winders. (Eilux uses strictly one head systems so this is not an issue at all!) A 4 watch winder using a 2 motor head system to wind the watches is really only a 2 watch winder, and then the bargain price does not seem such a bargain, especially when the thing breaks in 3 months. I hope you heed my warning, but if not, see you in 3 months! With Winders you really do get what you pay for!

Watch Winding. What Choice is best for you?

Eilux makes winders in all sizes. Eilux 12 Winders are sold out till April 2009! Eilux 6 Winders are unique call us and we can make you a super deal! Eilux 3 Winders are top sellers. Eilux Double Winders and Eilux single Winders. The single winders are battery only operated or you can buy an adapter for about $50. Eilux makes a nice leather winder or stainless steel winder and also a true bare bones inexpensive watch winder. Eilux Winders running with batteries should give you battery life of 6-8 months.

WHAT IS A WATCH WINDER AND DO I NEED ONE?

Lets answer part 2 of this question now and then explain further. Yes, if you own an automatic watch you need a watch winder! A Watch Winder is a mechanical device used to wind an Automatic Watch. Watch Winders wind automatic watches by rotating the watches over a set time period, stopping and starting again as needed...Automatic Watches are often called Self Winding Watches, since the owner does not have to wind the watch using the watch winding stem. Instead the watch winds itself so to speak as the owner moves his wrist in daily activity. However if you take your Automatic Watch off it will soon stop and you will need to reset the watch. You will need to set the date. You will need to set the time. You will need to wind it. You will need to reset any other features your watch has (called complications) and all this re-setting takes time. Your time! If you are wealthy enough to own an Automatic Watch your time is valuable and you need to save your time with one of our Watch Winders! Simple as that. Yes you need a watch winder!

Will a WatchWinder Wind a stopped watch?

No a watch must be at least 80% wound in order for a watch winder to keep it wound. To wind your watch with the stem, follow the manufacturers directions with care. If you do not have the directions you may wind it with the movement of your wrist. Simply read this Hand Winding Automatic Watches by Movement Winding Automatic Watches .

How many winders (or winder heads) do I need? Can my wife and I share a winder? you really need one winder or winder head for every automatic watch your family owns. Switching out is generally not an option that works in reality.

Can my wife and I share a winder? No you can not. Actually you can share a winder, but not the winder heads (a multiple head winder can be shared, but not a single winder). You should reserve a certain winder head for a certain watch, so you do not ever change the winder settings. Trust me, sharing winders is not a good idea, go ahead and share your tooth brush, but not your winder! ;-)

"Surely there comes a time when counting the cost and paying the price aren't things to think about any more. All that matters is value..." James Hilton (1900 - 1954)

Who invented the Automatic Watch? In 1931 a little known company by the name of Rolex "invented" the automatic watch. Today WatchCases.com sells devices called watch winders to keep your Automatic Watch wound. Most Automatic Watches have copied Rolex and as a result a watch winder that will wind a Rolex is usually a good choice for the majority of watches.

How do Automatic Watches Work? (How to pick a Winder with this in mind.) Automatic Watches use a pendulum like device called a rotor which rotates inside the watch as you move your arm each flick of the wrist causes the rotor to rotate in a circle and when it does it winds a spring inside the watch. This spring stores energy for keeping the time keeping movement moving. The Rotor can rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise. (If your watch has a clear back case you can see the rotor in action.) Engineers can design the device to wind the spring in both directions or in one direction only. Rolex Style watches wind in both directions. Meaning they need a winder that has a Bi-Directional Winding Setting. Then the engineer has to decide how much movement do we need for supplying energy for the watch to keep running? These decisions affect the accuracy of the watch. (Automatics are not very accurate due to the complex effects of intermittent power and gravity, it is amazing to me that they even work at all let alone are off 5 or 10 minutes a year...)The most accurate automatics are called Turbillon Watches click to learn more about howTurbillon Watches solved this issue in part. Orbita also invented a winder to do the same thing as an expensive tourbillon watch. The decision is also based on the amount of abuse the watch is expected to get while worn. A sedentary person will wind a watch less than a working yachtsmen. Rolex decided they needed a rotor that would wind with almost any wrist movement and that about 600-800 flicks of the wrist causing a complete rotation of the rotor would do the job. Most of the time, your watch rotor does not make a full 360 degree rotation...any more movement and the slip mechanism will kick in to prevent winding the mainspring to tight and snapping the mainspring. So Again a Rolex Styled watch movement (which covers the majority of watches) will need a winder with Bi-Directional settings and at least 650 TPD(Turns Per Day) so a winder that winds in both clockwise and counter-clockwise direction will do the job....The next most common winding requirement for automatic watches are those needing at least 800 TPD(Turns Per Day) (80%+ of automatic watches need 800 TPD or less. Meaning if it does not get at least that many turns it will not stay wound. (Directional settings vary widely. Bi-Directional is the most common setting however.) If a watch is designed for Desk Work then it usually is of the Rolex type and winds in both directions (Bi-Directional). Why? To ensure sedentary people move enough to wind the watch! If a watch is a Pilots Watch or Divers Watch or any other watch designed for use in "active" work, then usually the winding requirement is one direction only. Why? To minimize the time error created by over winding the watch and also to allow for less robust winding springs. If one direction does the job, the watch is cheaper to produce. With these watches price points can be important.

That said, pick a winder that winds your watch without undue overwinding of the watch to minimize any potential over work issues. The more precise winding you want the more money you will pay. The quieter winder motors will also be more expensive. The longer life you expect the more money the item will cost....cheap winders will perform poorly, but if you own cheap watches, then you do not need a quality winder like the ones we sell at WatchCases.com.

We are not the only company selling watch winders, we are however the best! Please keep in mind a quote from Economist John Ruskin when you make an internet buying decision:

"There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey." John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)

WatchCases.com believes in offering the best products available at competitive prices. We are not the cheapest company selling watch winders, that is not our goal. We are the best! Our goal is to sell winders at a reasonable and fair profit margin to ensure excellent customer service and allow us to make a decent living in the process. If you live by the same philosophy, please give us your business. Customer service is our WatchCases.com trademark and customer service is not cheap! When things go right, every company looks good, we strive to look good when things go poorly and this makes all the difference! This my friend is called service. Service is that extra effort, that saves the customer time and money in the long run. WatchCases.com strives to save your time, every time! (Pun intended.)

Choosing a Winder when "Simple is Best"? If you or the person you are buying a watch winder for is not technically inclined. Then you need a winder that is simple and easy to use. You need to consider the winders on this page . The Sparta Winder Engine Made by Orbita is the way to go for non technically oriented people. Just put the watch on the winder and turn the winder on and walk away. No worries. No other Winder is as easy to use without overwinding your watch. Sparta Winders use Gravity and a heavy Rotor in a pendulum like swinging motion which simulates the movement a watch experiences while worn on the wrist. Read more...

Do you need a Watch Winder or not? Do you need a Watch Winder or not? Let me say this yes, and no. Personally I think if you can afford a luxury watch you can not afford to not have a watch winder. Time is too important to waste! But click the previous blue link and read what some watch experts think. A new window will open from Time Zone Watch Forum their comments are independent of watchcases.com. I think a watch winder is a great invention. When I take my automatic watch off for an extended period of time, or overnight, I hate re-setting the thing. I personally am too busy to fuss with such details...however, one can get by without a watch winder, so in that sense "you don't need one". My philosophy: "Our life is frittered away by detail...simplify,simplify." Henry David Thoreau What can be simpler than letting a device do your work for you?

No you don't need a winder. A winder in general is a luxury convenience only item for someone with 1 watch that he/she wears all the time. Most Automatics can be stem wound (gently and slowly)or you can move them to wind them, I might say it metaphorically "stirred but not shaken". Vigorous shaking of an automatic over time can damage the movement. Hold your watch and rotate your wrist as if stirring a martini. Maybe 30 "stirs". (Forgive the pun, but the image should help.) Gentle rotating, back and forth while on your wrist at a slow and deliberate rate will also work, (slow stirring) twice a week can keep many automatic watches wound. Now some automatics have a reserve of less than 24 hours and these watches are best worn all the time or stored on a winder or again, simple diligent winding in the morning and evening will keep it running. But if your automatic watch stays wound with just a little attention, if it has a long power reserve...Then save yourself $200 -$800 but if you do buy a winder (which I hope you do) remember to wind the watch stem to 80% wind capacity before putting it on the winder. Why? A watch winder is really a maintenance device, not a winder at all. A dead watch on a winder will remain dead. That said, if you have the money to afford a fine Swiss automatic watch, you probably don't have the time to fuss with resetting your watch and therefore you need a watch winder! True. It is a luxury item, but some luxury items are needed.

Yes you do need a winder. A Winder is more of a necessity for a collector with 2 automatic watches or, 3 automatic watches or 4 automatic watches or more, that the owner wants to keep running to protect his investment(s). Some busy high income professionals I work with actually take tax deductions for their winders. I am no accountant, so I am not making any claims on the legitimacy of such deductions, but the point is they consider their watch running all the time to be a necessity. If you decide you need a winder please buy a good one like an Orbita, or a High Quality German made watch winder by Buben & Zorweg. one that will not destroy the watch you are trying to protect. Do not buy a cheap gadget winder.

How much should I expect to pay for a quality single watch winder?

The key word here is quality. Quality is expensive when it comes to mechanical devices, unless they are made in massive quantities like quartz watches. Simply put the more expensive winder will last longer and run more reliably than the cheaper product in almost all cases! A few things that are missing from cheap winders are safety certifications for electrical circuitry, quiet running motors, vibration free motors, programmed running time (most cheap winders are continuous running or long run cycles, short run cycles are best for winders), ability to repair the unit (most cheap winders are warrantied, but you pay to return it, they toss it and replace with another defective unit, which they charge you to ship back.)

Quality Range goes from the High End German winder made Buben & Zorweg and American made Orbita Winders, to the Hong Kong made Eilux winders to the Wolf Designs Watch Winders made in China . To the assembled in London Rapport Watch Winders ....to the cheap gadget winders sold elsewhere for less than $100, which do not work, but do set false price expectations for people. (Note I ranked our winder brands here by our actual experience with defective products the first 3 winders are virtually tied with respect to reliability (at 0%), and the other 2 are way above the average industry reliability figures. (If we do not carry a winder, it is because we feel it is too cheap and of poor quality or too expensive. Due to cheap products flooding the market we have limited our offerings of the higher end expensive winders, we respect the winders made by Scatola Del Tempo and Under Wood and even our competitor JFA James Feldman and associates. It is just the higher price levels are hard to sell online and Orbita & Buben cover the high end so well, it seems silly to expand our line for the sake of expansion alone.)

Some independent comments on winders can be found here in the timezone forum: Watch Winder Review Or click here for another watch winder review posted on Orbita's Website.

Price is affected by other factors too. The power source is one factor in price. The cheapest winders run on batteries only, followed by winders which run on electricity only and the most expensive models like the ones from Orbita and Buben & Zorweg are dual powered running on either battery or AC power. All battery powered winders are not the same. Engineering determines power drain, more expensive and better engineered products use batteries more efficiently. Orbita Sparta batteries last for 2 years, while cheap gadget winders often have batteries that need replaced before 3 months usage.

The programmability and flexibility of the winder. How many different watches a winder can wind is the next factor in the price. The more winding settings a winder has the more expensive it will be. Cheaper winders simply offer one setting for winding and wind in both directions all the time. This overworks the watch, but will keep most watches wound. Programmable winders are designed to put the absolute minimum amount of wear and tear on the moving parts of your automatic watch.

The key word here is quality. For a quality 1 watch winder expect to pay about $800 for a quality dual powered high tech programmable watch winder. This level of winder is needed for high end Swiss Watches. But if you have cheaper watches, then maybe for a single head no frills battery operated winder you can expect to pay about $200 per head. Put the same winder in a nice wood box or put a more expensive winder head into a nice travel winder and you increase the price to about twice that $200 starting amount. Orbita makes a nice triple winder for about $500 per winder head. Winders are like watches, in that they can be made cheaper, but the cheaper products do not work as well and in many cases simply do not work at all for luxury watches. For a simple no frills winder, you can get away with spending about $200 per winder head.

Pay any less and the unit will fail in 3-6 months. The motor will fail, the winder box will hold your watch just fine and look pretty, but the point is to keep the watch wound. Otherwise save your money and put the watch in your sock drawer! Many jewelry box manufacturers in China have seen the watch winder market as a new market for them. They may make quality jewelry boxes, however a watch winder is more than a jewelry box!(This $200 is a retail price guide, sales may get the price down to the $150 level but a 6 watch winder selling for $200 is no more than a jewelry box!) You can not judge a winder by it's box! Cheap winders tend to wind inconsistently, become noisy in a few months and burn up batteries. "What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)

How much should I expect to pay for a large Winding Unit holding many watches?

Expect to pay about $300 to $500 per winder head minimum for a multiple winder boxed case. There are winders for sale online and elsewhere for prices below these numbers but they simply do not work or do not work for long. We have examined, evaluated and rejected these winders, and though some come in really pretty boxes, none of them has done the job of winding the watches we placed inside! If we could sell a cheap winder we would! The lower the price the more we can sell! But we are committed to quality, and so far the best we can do is barely break the $150 level. Another "rule of thumb" would be--You should expect to pay about 10% of the value of your collection. So if you have for example a Breitling Chronomat 664 which retails for $5750 or about $6,000 you would expect to pay about $600 for the winder.

So are you saying price is a good way to evaluate watchwinders?

No price is not the best guide to use in evaluating a WatchWinderwatchwinder. Price tends to give an indication of quality, but the price guidelines are only written to let you know a winder (that works) will not be cheap! A watchwinder is a luxury item, just like a mechanical watch. Scatola del Tempo makes a very nice high end single watchwinder, it sells for $1785, but I think the Orbita Monaco 1 Winder or the Siena 1 WatchWinder both are much better for far less! Or a larger choice the Monaco 4 or Monaco 6. Would it be a mistake to pay more for a winder? No. Would it be a mistake to pay less? Yes! People do not own mechanical watches because they are cheap or even for their time keeping ability, any $50 quartz watch will keep more accurate time than an automatic watch! A winder will do something nothing else can do, keep that mechanical engineering marvel at almost the correct time and always the correct date and other complication. A quality winder will provide a ready to wear watch, no need to set every dial. No one wants to pay "too much" for anything, but our customers seem to shop with us because they like high quality products at competitive prices. Since Watches differ so much with regard to their winding needs Orbita Watch Winders has developed an excellent watch winding database for researching your watch brands winding needs .

Country of Origin? Does this matter?

Yes and no. Yes it matters, if price correlates. But if a claim is made which does not match the high price expected, they are lying and the claim is not valid. Fist of all anything truly <"http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/madeusa.htm"target=_blank> made in the USA or Europe will be extremely expensive. Why? Cost of Labor. Any company selling at super low prices and claiming to "made in Europeor the US" is not telling the whole truth! Just keep in mind there are strong rules about country of origin claims in only a few industries, food and autos for example which are rarely enforced; except in the auto industry. The rules are based on "value added" to a product and some companies claim the value of stamping their brand name is worth more than the product itself and so they claim made in the UK, or made in Germany or the USA, etc, when that is as far from the truth as you can get! There might be a true value in a brand but if the item is made in China and the European name is stamped on it, I hardly think a claim of "Made in Europe" should be allowed.(Substitute any country claim, Italy, Germany, USA.) Typically they (the cheaters) do not blatantly state "Made in X" they may simply highlight the brand and it's country and imply it (the product) is European made. Basically if the out right claim is not made do not assume anything. Even though label rules are not enforced as strictly as I think they should be, a large manufacturer typically prefers not to blatantly lie.

At the very leastI think they should tell you where the parts are made. If country of origin is omitted from the website it is because they are attempting to deceive. Buben and Zorweg Winders makes really do make their high quality products in Germany and Austria and they struggle to sell enough units to be profitable. Their products are expensive because of the quality and the high cost of building things in Europe. I have not had a single customer complain about the quality of a Buben and Zorweg winder product, but I have had many customers complain about the cheap chinese made winder they bought from some gadget store and now can not sleep with it grinding away in their bed room. Basically. Chinese made winders are over produced and therefore low priced (and low quality). Hong Kong made products tend to be middle ground in price and quality varies solely depending on the company. American made products are high priced, high quality products just like products truly made in Germany, London and Italy. Things are not always as they appear. Just answer this question: Which company is the best American Car manufacturer?

A.)General Motors

:P Toyota

C) Honda

D) Nissan

Duh?

Well, this is a bit of a trick question all of the above are actually building cars in America with American labor. Recently the definitions of "Made in America" or any country claim have been blurred. I therefore might answer the opposite of what most people would answer. I say Toyota is the better "American Made Car". Toyota now has plants in the USA and is breaking ground to build more, while GM actually is closing factories and GM is actually making more money making and selling cars in China than in the USA! That said, I am selling winders, not cars. I happen to like GM cars very much, the point is simply that the world is a bit more complex than it used to be. Companies make claims that often are false. So just do not be fooled. If 2 companies claim a product is made in an Industrialized country and one is selling for far less, it usually means one of them is out sourcing and at best assemblying the produt in the claimed country of origin. Usually any company willing to deceive a little simply deceives in total. Many winders are being sold now that claim to be "made in the USA", or "made in the UK" when in fact they are made in China. Price will tell the story. Today's markets are effecient. Higher prices can only be carried on a few select brands, Rolex being one example. Most companies must compete head to head on price. The honest companies are loosing the battle to the dishonest poorly made products flooding the market place. Did you buy your "Rolex" watch in Hong Kong for $500? Do you really think it is real? Counterfitting is not restricted to dollar bills, everything is being counterfitted today. Price will help you decipher what is real and what is not.

Price however rarely lies. Compare a large Orbita winder with any other large winder manufacturer and if it is not within a few dollars in price difference regardless of the claim the other winder is not being made in the USA or Europe! Simply put, Caveat Emptor! Lets face it, it is cheaper to build things in China than it is to build things in London or New York.

I need a winder for a gift. What should I get?

For a gift either go with a top notch high quality expensive winder , or go with a much less expensive winder or even a reallycheap winder but be sure to upgrade to a Leather exterior, if you need to impress it will really make the receiver feel like he is getting a top notch product!. A great high quality single winder is the Bellino Winder, but this winder is complicated to program. The most well known brand of quality winder is the Orbita Winder.

I need a winder for a heavy watch like a Breitling. Which one should I choose?

For a single heavy watch choose a top of the line winder like the Murano Watch Winder or the WatchWinder Siena 1 model.

If you own a heavy Breitling (or other heavy watch) do not choose your winder based on price You should probably buy a more expensive quality Orbita winder product. Or a Buben And Zorweg President 6 winder or Buben & Zorweg Executive 4 Winder Model. Why? Because this is an expensive watch that is historically difficult to wind. Most winders fail to keep a Breitling wound.( Why? The combination of their weight, multiple complications and long power reserve these heavy watches just seem to challenge the low end winders.) If you own a Breitling, lets face it, you don't need to "save money", treat your watch with the dignity and respect it deserves.

I need a winder for a Rolex. Which one should I choose?

OK, I am going to compliment Rolex here. (Some of my customers will not like me writing this. My Breitling customers may balk at this...but here goes;-) I think Rolex makes an unbelievable automatic watch! The basic Rolex perpetual mechanism does a wonderful job of winding efficiently. The majority of Rolex watches need Bi-directional/both directions, clockwise and counter clockwise rotation winding. In other words they wind rather easily. Most of our winders are factory pre-set for this watch series. The Rolex rotor works well with both the high end Orbita Sienna or Monaco Winders series and the low end Orbita Sparta Series, the Compact Box winder is a favorite of mine. The Rolex also does well with the Eilux Cubic Series of Winders and the larger Triple or Double Winders do a great job also. Rolex set the standard for automatics! Now the Rolex Daytona is a little bit trickier to maintain the wind with a winder. Rolex Daytona requires a Bi-Directional movement but with more TPD. (Turns Per Day.) Rolex Daytona needs up to 950 TPD depending on the winder.

Someone told me all winders can wind Rolex watches?

OK, some Swiss watch history: In 1931 a little known company by the name of Rolex invented the automatic watch movement which Rolex called the perpetual rotor. Many rotors only wind in one direction, Rolex chose to make their rotor "perpetual" and wind both forward and backward (clockwise and counter-clockwise) so if you move it winds. This ensures the watch is always charged and running. This nifty little invention allowed the wearer to wind his watch with just the slightest flick of the wrist. Virtually every modern automatic watch has this mechanism inside. Which means most watch winders can handle Rolex watches and most non Rolex watches too. Why? Well, even though the watch may not have Rolex on the face, good chance it has a Rolex movement inside (or a closely backward engineered copy). Some watch makers have "improved" on the Rolex rotor, and these "improved" versions are typically very tricky to keep wound. Typically these improvements are made to address the needs of more active watch enthusiasts, like divers, sailors and pilots as opposed to strictly status based customers. But such watches tend to limit ease of winding to prevent over stressing the mechanism when active. The basic Rolex movement requires at least 650 bidirectional Turns Per Day on a watch winder. Most Cheap Winders over-wind Rolex watches and under-wind other luxury brands, (technically cheap winders do not over wind the watch, since it has a slip mechanism to protect the winding spring from snapping, but they do overstress the watch). Damage to the watch is not so important an issue when buying a winder as is the fact the winder probably will not work for a variety of watches and it will grow loud and break within a year or two. A watch winder made to the standards of a high quality watch should last you 8-10 years of quiet continuous performance. You can buy a cheap watch and you can buy a cheap winder. Both may look good, but both will not perform in the same manner and I personally will pay the extra money for a quality Rolex, Breitling or even high end Invicta over a fake any day!(I would have said Franck Muller, Patek Phillippe or Harry Winston but, for now I can only dream about owning them!)

What is the best winder for someone who is a "total klutz"?

No offense intended here by using the word "klutz" in fact a distant cousin of mine, John Kennedy, wrote the extremely successful, best selling " "Klutz How to:" book series , so in our family this is a good term! Orbita is the only US winder manufacturer and they are considered to make the best most complicated winders in the industry and now they also make the easiest to use winder!

The Orbita Sparta Seriesis the best "set and forget" winder on the market, from the Orbita Corporation. I love this Sparta winder series and think Orbita should have priced it at a premium, but they are not about gouging the customer, they are about winding your watch collection! Orbita winders are the most expensive because they work the best! If it says Sparta on it, it uses Orbita's newest engine, the only difference in Sparta models is the exteriors. The

simplest cheapest, no dustcover Sparta Open 1 Watch Winder.

or try Leather Covered Compact Boxed 1 Winder or in wood box the

Deluxe Wood Cased Sparta 1 Deluxe Mahogany Winder.(For large watches)

What is the best watchwinder for someone who is a true "Engineer at Heart"? Someone who loves complex things? If this is a gift for someone who gets excited about putting things together! Someone who buys mechanical watches for the complexity of the machine, not because he forgets to wind things? Then he will appreciate a Complex Winder.

I need a winder for a gift for my "Metrosexual" friend. Which one is most popular with this group?

This group overwhelmingly prefers the highest quality modern things like the Ticino Winder from Orbita or the Deluxe Sparta Mahogany Winder. If you are not familiar with the term"metrosexual", this is just a risky way of saying, "well dressed fashion aware men who take care of them selves". (Some would add self obsessed.) It is a play on words, since gay men often are credited with knowing how to dress this group is what the new city man is all about and has nothing to do with sexual orientation! It is actually an interesting, if meaningless word, but it has caught on and you may hear it more and more...but you will not here your Orbita Siena 1 WatchWinder winding, or grinding like you will if you buy a cheap winder some place else.

What is the single most important factor to consider when purchasing a Watch Winder? Where you purchase the winder is your most important decision. Buy only from an Authorized dealer like watchcases.com. (We certainly hope you choose us after reading our advice, we think you will.) This is a mechanical device, you are looking at. A watch winder is not as complex as a car, but just like a car a bad dealer can turn an otherwise great purchase into a nightmare. Should you need warranty work or repairs we can point you in the right direction. We know winders and we deliver on our promise of excellent timely service. Our suppliers know we support them and like wise they support us. We under promise and over deliver. Just check what our customers have said about us, notice we did not hide the negative reviews, we are not perfect, but we will strive for perfection on every order.

Where should I buy my watch winder?

Of course we think you should buy from us, but we are not the only legitimate dealer on the net, we have some excellent competition that I send customers to when we run out of stock. However we also have some very non-legitimate competition. You can tell. First look at the web site now look at the prices offered, if they are competitive, just a tad bit better. Then you know they are legit, if they are half the price of the "going retail". Hey, you should know better! Unless they are the factory site, such prices are not even feasible at closeout! I know it is tempting, but I implore you, buy a product that will do the job, not a cheap gadget that does not work. Worst case scenario for some sites save your credit, protect your self from identity theft or worse! I wanted to write the names of the legitimate dealers, but my accountant said that would simply be foolish, so for now I will not. You probably don't buy watches from the guys in the trench coats in NY..."psst, wanna buy a nice Rolex?" So don't fall for the same ploy on a website or pretend magazine...you get what you pay for.

Why are your prices slightly more than everyone else?

We only sell proven products. We give advice on the best product for your needs. We stand behind our words with rock solid guarantees and customer service. Contrary to the advice of cheap winders one size does not fit all! We think we add value to the buying process and prevent you from making a mistake and we feel our time is worth something. If you don't that is your decision. We thank you for reading just the same. We don't sell the cheapest products made and we don't think our business model should be to be the cheapest ones selling things. Walmart has that job!

What questions should I be asking myself about a Watch Winder?

Ask yourself; Is the winder reliable and does the winder actually function in accordance to the needs of my expensive automatic watch? A watch winder is more than a jewelry box. Cheap jewelry boxes are easy to come by. A watch winder is a rather complex mechanical device. A winder, like a watch is all about what is inside! (I mean the movement or motor.) Is it really a watch winder or simply a watch spinner? Is it a watch winder or simply a watch grinder?

What kind of life expectancy can I expect from a Watch Winder?

The length of usable life for a winder will be directly proportional to how much you spend for the winder and indirectly proportional to how much you spent on the watch. For each $100 you spend for a winder head you can expect a good 1-2 years of trouble free 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year of constant reliable service. A high end quality winder should last about 8-10 years according to watchwind.com. High end quality winder motors would include these motor manufacturers:

Bergeon Winder Motors of Switzerland

Buben & Zoerweg Winders of Austria

Elma Winders of Germany

MTE Winder Motors of Germany

Orbita Winders USA/Austria

Scatola del Tempo Winders of Italy

Underwood Winders of Italy

Do you carry all of the High End Winders available today? No we do not. We carry only the ones we perceive as offering the best value. Quality and Price must balance to deliver value in order for us to carry the product line....we carry Elma, Buben & Zorweg, and Orbita, we do not carry Scatola or Underwood. We do not carry Scatola and Underwood simply because we think Orbita makes a better product at a better price and we think Elma and Buben cover us in the high end cost range, though we have been tempted to carry both Scatola and Underwood products to date we are simply fighting off the cheap junk winders with Orbita, Buben and Eilux Winders.

What reliability can I expect from a winder after the warranty expires?

The better winders will be reliable but more importantly a quality winder will be repairable; the others will need to be thrown away. No matter how pretty the jewelry box they come in. If the inside winder motor breaks the whole thing must be tossed. Remember the important part of a winder is the unseen motor, which is the part that adds most of the cost to the winder! My experience is quality products are good for about twice as long as their maximum warranty. (Orbita for example offers 5 years on optional extended warranty so 10 years would be fair to expect them to perform!) Most products are good for just a little bit longer than the maximum warranty offered by the company making the product. Cheap winders are rarely good for longer than a year or two. Quality Winders are repairable and tend to last at least twice as long as they are warrantied. Eilux and Orbita offer extended warranties of up to 3 years for their winders. Most other manufacturers???only offer 1 year warranties, and many cheap winders offer 30 day warranties. Orbita claims their winders and other should provide reliable service for 8 to 10 years. Eilux makes no life expectancy claims but in 4 years we have only see a couple in need of repair. Both companies offer US based repair facilities. Most other winders do not offer such repair services. Why is that? It is cheaper to replace than repair cheap winder brands.

What are you talking about I saw this "German named winder" that had a "life time replacement".

Don't be fooled by a "German sounding name! Unless it is made in Germany and priced accordingly.(That is expensively.) Get the companies home page in its country of origin. Look for a .de in the domain extension for German products and .ch for Switzerland. Most fake German name winders are made in China. Do not be taken in with "life time replacement". No German automobile manufacturer offers such a program, they fix the broken car, and they don't throw it away and replace it. Garbage is thrown away, quality merchandise is repaired! You will tire of looking for a shipping box every other month, driving to UPS, paying the 2 way UPS shipping and insurance. This is the same principle as a rebate offer. Companies know the majority of people will not bother, saving the needed receipts and other proof, the offer makes the sale but they never have to actually pay the price...better to buy something that will work for a long time. Winders are not as reliable as fine Swiss automatic watches. If you own an expensive watch you can safely expect a lifetime of service from it, but a comparable quality winder would cost tens of thousands of dollars and still would not last as long as a watch due to the heavier load placed on a winders moving parts! Good winders do a lot of work.

What is the single most important mechanical factor to consider when purchasing a Watch Winder?

The single most important mechanical factor? Hmm...First buy a quality product, not the cheapest thing you can find...then I think there are really 2 other factors and they are both of equal value. They are reliability and function. Mechanically for a watch winder to work it must start and stop with some force. A sudden change of direction imparts the force to the rotor in such a way as to add "charge" or "wind" to the automatic watch. So a toy will break soon after being bought, a machine will not break at least not for a few years....

Mechanical Factor? Who are you kidding, isn't it just a little gizmo that spins my watch?

This is the precise impression we find ourselves fighting against daily. A true watch winder is in fact a mechanical device. A cheap toy winder will move your watch, round and round, but soon you will find out long term it will not actually wind your watch. Automatic watches require a specific angle of rotation, a specific minimal and maximal winding speed. A specific gravity and forced stop, automatic watches are complex and the winders that do the job intended are actually rather complex patented little machines! They are not cheap little toy gadgets like are being sold in Airplane & Gadget magazines. Expect to pay about $200 for an entry level winder and in the thousands for a complicated multiple head winder. That is if you want a quality product that will work for more than a few months and will wind your watch collection! If you are getting a gift for someone, get them the best item you can afford, gifts that break are not good relationship builders!

Do I need a watch winder?

First of all if your watch is worn every day except for when you sleep at night, do not buy a winder, you do not need one. Just manually turn the winding stem 10-20 times each night and you will never have a problem with loosing the time...Only buy a winder if you find yourself resetting your watches many functions all the time and it is annoying to you.

Can one of your watch winders damage my watch?

None of our winders will damage your watch. Our suppliers have too much money invested in their companies to risk such damage and automatic watches are built to tolerate a large degree of over winding. In fact most automatics claim they are impossible to over wind!

Can a watch winder cause an automatic watch to gain or loose time?

No an automatic watch generally either winds the watch or rather keeps it wound or it does not and the watch stops totally. If the watch stays working but looses a few minutes the problem is with the watch, not the winder. The winder simply delivers the laws of physics. The watch itself is solely responsible for the time keeping accuracy of the watch.

If the watch is not being wound enough it will slow at a constant rate and eventually stop. Losses of 3-5 minutes a day are common with automatics, though not heavily advertised!

Why do I notice my watch having the wrong time now that it is on the winder for a few weeks?

Note: automatic watches generally are not as accurate as quartz watches and re-adjustments of a few minutes here or there are to be expected. In fact most manufacturers tell you to hand wind your watch from time to time. The so called automatic part is basically a luxury addition which allows you to forget to wind your mechanical watch occasionally! Mostly the automatic winding apparatus saves you from having to reset multiple complications. Though the time may be off by 10 minutes or so, the day, the date etc are usually fine when the watch is placed in a quality watch winder partially charged to start with...This is the reason the higher end winders come with digital clocks and or the really high end ones have digital atomic clocks in the winders, so you can check and reset the time...

What do you mean a winder will help you maintain your watch?

Usually the winder points out a problem which previously went undetected and the owner is able to address it in a timely fashion.

Sometimes people have watches which have sat unwound for years and they put it on a winder and feel the winder is causing the watch to run fast or slow or some other issue. I assure you it is not the winder. It is simply now that the watch has a constant winding movement and remains wound for months you can now see the natural tendency of an automatic watch to gain or loose time. Automatics should be serviced regularly, every 1-2 years your jeweler should have a look at it. Most people never do this maintenance work. Hey it is a mechanical device! Keep it serviced!

Can I over wind my automatic watch?

Answer: No and Yes! OK, I mentioned this before. I do not mean to confuse. Technically speaking it is impossible to over wind an automatic watch. Why? They are built with ???slip mechanisms???to prevent over winding.

I read my Rolex requires 650 turns per day bidirectionally? But most winders do not wind to that precise number, what do I do?

Watch manufacturers give minimal winding requirements, not maximal. The number 650 means at least 650 TPD. A maximum is not given. Why? If you could over wind a watch they would have big bold print warning you. "The watch general has determined that using a hammer while wearing your watch could lead to damage to your watch and its internal components." They do not. Because automatics by design can not be over wound with normal activity.

Why? Like I said. They are built with ???slip mechanisms???to prevent over winding. Why? Well, imagine one day you are assigned the task of sharpening all the office pencils! ;-) You see, Rolex and other watch makers know people move at differing levels, from one day to the other, one person to the other, so they realized they had to allow for that. (Early on watch makers did not allow for this and a lot of broken watches resulted!) However, that said; keep in mind one can over use things. I do not know the long term effect of placing an expensive automatic watch on a watch winder which winds it far more turns per day than the watch manufacturer suggests. I am talking about winders that wind almost all day, giving a watch 20-30 (twenty to thirty) times the wind needed, not double or triple the minimum requirements.

I do know that Orbita, Eilux, Rapport and Wolf Designs all have spent a ton of money developing and researching winding requirements. They do not price their winders higher than cheap imports just for the fun of it; they actually make a much better product. Orbita makes a winder, the Orbita Sparta, which actually winds watches a bit more than some watches require maybe double the requirement but this is not a problem at all! When I say ???over wind??? I am not talking about double, or even triple, I am talking about 24 (twenty four) times or more than needed! A watch that needs 600 TPD as a minimum can easily adjust to 1400 TPD and in fact when worn on your arm often experiences in excess of 3,000 TPD of motion with no harm to the watch! Cheap winders tend to simply spin the watch an excessive amount because they do not start and stop with enough inertia and at the proper angle to effectively distribute the energy to the watch rotor. In theory your watch should be fine, but why put thousands of dollars at risk for savings temporarily of a few hundred dollars?

The Winders you carry are all so expensive. I was hoping to spend less than $100. Like in the gadget magazines and other cheap web sites. Why are your winders so expensive?

This is an excellent question! Simply put, please do not compare apples and oranges. Toys and machines. Prices have gradually been pushed down the past couple of years, however the companies we carry all have a commitment to quality and one can not go too cheap and maintain quality products. One way, though not the only way to evaluate a companies committment to R & D is to do a patent search...I did just for fun...Do a search yourself at the US Patent Office Website for watch winder. This will give you some possible insight into the market place.

No R&D goes into the cheap products on the market at least none that I can see. (I am not a patent attorney and I know very little in this subject area.) I was however surprised that none of the cheap product manufacturers seems to hold a single patent dealing with watch winding!

Whereas every one of the quality manufacturers we carry have their own US and or international patents, or has purchased the rights from the owner of such patents. Do a search yourself at the US Patent Office Website .

I do not want to do a patent search, can't you just tell me a little bit about what you found?

Ok, it was a lot of work, and kind of fun. First let me say, anyone can search the online US Patent Office Website . But this does not mean a whole lot. I am not a patent attorney and my search could hardly be called exhaustive! If you do a quick search for automatic watch winders you will notice some things interesting!

You???ll notice Chuck Agnoff???s name a lot, he owns Orbita Corporation. You???ll notice none, not one of the cheap importers with the fancy German names or the nonsensical 3 letter names! You will see: Tze Sing Siu of Everwell Instruments, (now Eilux). You???ll see Simon Wolf, of Wolf Designs, you even might stumble across some watch companies like Takahashi Masaaki of Seiko, or Timex???s Paul Wuthrich. You will even notice a very good over priced brand which we do not carry Alessandro Rustioni of Underwood Corporation but even my in deeper searching did not yield any of the Cheap Importers with any rights what so ever to watch winders. This was important to me.

This is interesting, can you tell me more? Who did you find holding patent rights on watch winders?

I am not a patent attorney, and my point is not a legal point. These other companies probably have rights I am not aware of I simply could not locate them despite considerable effort on my untrained part. However it was pretty easy to find the legitimate patent rights of the major brands in the US watch winding industry. My point is just to say, we carry brands with a legitimate claim and real business investments and documented knowledge base in the Watch Winder Industry. Not fly by night copy cat companies. We carry winder products from people and companies who have done original research and design of a unique product and who applied for patents on their work. Below is a random listing of Patent information I was able to find in a couple hours of searching. The same names kept appearing over and over despite how deep I went??? Despite the variations on keywords etc. But what do I know? I am not a patent attorney and I do not play one on TV and I did not even sleep at a Holiday Inn Last night. ;-) Below is a brief sampling of my "Quick Search" results??? U.S. Patent Documents : 6254270 July 2001, Agnoff (Orbita) D455449 April 2002, Siu (Everwell/Eilux) 6439761 August 2002 Agnof: (Orbita) 6543929 April 2003 Agnoff: (Orbita) D474216 May 2003-Siu : (Everwell/Eilux) D4552256 December 2001 Wolf (Wolf Designs) D455449 April 2002 Siu (Everwell/Eilux)

Which brand winder should I buy?

Any brand winder we sell is a good choice. However even among our line up some items stand out more than others. The winders we sell have proven themselves in the market place with reliable products and sound factory warranty support provided with in the USA! (Not true for most of the competition.) For reliability and function, Orbita and Eilux are neck and neck. Orbita has an edge on program versatility. Both companies offer extended multiple year warranties, however I would warn you not to expect a winder to last beyond 3-5 years. The larger the winder the more important the manufacturer is in the decision. By large I mean the more winder heads the unit has the more important the decision. Orbita is the best choice for larger winders, those with more than 4 winder heads. They are the only company which is US based. They actually repair winders, many other companies simply toss the device in the trash. People pay $20,000 for a car and sell it in 4 years, yet they expect a winder to last forever. For that kind of dependability you would need to pay approximately $2,000 for a single winder head. (The average car looses 50% of its value in 4 years and usually starts to need monthly repairs, so do the math, $10,000 divided by 4....) Also the larger the winder the more important it is to buy from a winder dealer. Why? Any jewelry store can sell you a winder, but what kind of clout do you think he has with the manufacturer when he only sells 1 or 2 a year?

We talk to Orbita and Eilux on a daily basis, that is important.

This is the primary criteria WatchCases.com uses to determine which winders we carry for sale. If we do not carry any winder brand it is because the winder does not meet these minimal requirements or is too expensive to give the customer value.

What is the single most important factor to consider when purchasing a Watch Winder for the bed room? Another factor of high importance is the loudness of the winder, or rather the quietness! Does it "grind away" all night and keep you awake? No winder is totally quiet, however the ones we carry will work for most people and we guarantee them with a 30 day money back guarantee!

I saw some cheap winders being sold on late night TV recently and the guy was barking "see how quiet it is"? To a novice his rhetoric might work, but since I have heard every winder work, all I could think was "omg it sounds like a drill grinding away!" I guess quiet is relative? For me it is absolute, either the winder is quiet or it is not. Theirs was not.

Orbita and Eilux make the quietest running models. Everwell/Eilux are the absolute quietest winders, Orbita Winders are a close second place- both brands I would refer to as "whisper quiet" followed by Wolf Designs Watch Winders and Rapport Winders.

Wolf Designs has found a unique work around. Their solution is worth considering for watches you will leave winding long term. What is it? Wolf designs simply makes the winder turn off any winding at night and wind only in the daytime hours. Nice solution for the true light sleeper!...Their solution however is not good for customers who place their watches on the winder at night time only...Now if you compare not running at all to either Orbita or Eilux, then Wolf Designs has them both beat! Rapport winders are quiet, but about twice as loud as the other 2 brands and about equal to the Wolf Designs Winder when the motor is running. No winder is dead quiet however! Well except when stopped. All winders will get noisier as they age, 30 day warranties are not good warranties if quietness is a factor for you.

All watch winders look the same to me. Is there really any difference? Answer: YES! Though most cars "look the same", most people would concede cars are different! Price and Quality are closely related. But Watch Winders are fundamentally even more different than cars! The government does not regulate and over look safety and reliability of Watchwinders and there are no "winder lemon laws". WatchCases.com is your only safety net; we evaluate the winder market and offer for sale the products that actually work! We sell the real product, not cheap counterfeits!

I see "so called dealers" selling Eilux, Rapport and even Wolf Design Winders at below Whole Sale Prices. At prices the manufacturers advertising policy prohibits. If I put items on sale at unhealthy sale levels I get a call from the manufacturer and usually a 48 hour time frame to fix the pricing or loose my right to sell their products. These products are never pulled. Why? Well, simple they are not the real thing.

This is a tough market, just a click away from a competitor. The internet business is easy to enter cheaply, but hard & expensive to stay in long term. My advice is just look at the quality of the website and do not underestimate the potential for fraud. If it feels wrong, it is.

If you notice Orbita Winders for sale by any of my top competitors the prices will all be within a few dollars of each other. Why is that? Well, real competitors have bills to pay and must sell things at a reasonable markup which is not as much as some people seem to think! But the internet forces us to "be honest" and not try to hit home runs on any items by over charging...

So we push our prices down to a point below which means we would have to close the doors. Simple concept. Don't be fooled! Ebay has used items that can be bought for a "steal" but new retail items are not priced "too good to be true" if they are legitimate I should say...(By the way, never buy a used winder, people never sell used winders that work.)

Did you ever try to sleep with someone who snores? Cheap Watch Winders are like having a friend who snores sitting on your dresser all night every night day in and day out, grinding away....but you hate to just throw your friend away!

Our winders are quite! Everwell/Eilux and Orbita are the most quiet. Whisper quiet in fact! The other day I sold a triple winder to a man who had put up with a noisy winder for 3 years! Why? His wife had bought it for him on CNBC or some other TV sales program; I forgot where he said she got it. Now, he did say it still worked, but it was now in the garage! Grind, grind, grind.....He called me a week later to thank me! He said his wife was no longer mad at him after hearing the difference the Eilux winder made in their bedroom at night.

Why are your winders more expensive than the watch winders offered in gadget magazines and airplane magazines? A watch winder is a complex mechanical device. Not a toaster! Though some Chinese factories are producing winders as you would a toaster one after the other in volume exceeding the demand...Recall the Yugo automobile? Dealers sold them like hot cakes for a couple years! Great price.... No longer sold. Why? The highly demanding American market does not tolerate poor quality products for long. Low Price can sell an item for awhile, but quality keeps the sales going...Our business model does not revolve around junk mail or telemarketing. We rely on word of mouth and solid performance of our products not selling mailing lists or using mailing lists to sell more products!

What options are available with regard to power supply for winders? Well designed WatchWinders can be made which function well on batteries, or an electrical outlet or both power sources. You can get battery powered only, electric only or so called dual powered winders which give you the ability to change power supplies as needed.

Does it matter for my watch if a winder is powered with batteries or an electrical outlet? No it does not matter at all, unless you have specific personal needs with respect to power needs. For example if you store your watch in a Safe, Vault, Closet, or Sock Drawer and do not have an outlet, then a battery is a must!

Why are battery powered winders cheaper? They typically have to meet less stringent safety standards and the components are generally cheaper since there is less heat. Batteries however need replaced, so it depends on what your needs are.

Why are some winders more expensive than others? Price is affected with options. Some options are with respect to programmability and some are with respect to power. Battery only models are cheapest, followed by electric only and then the priciest are dual powered watchwinders.

Are there any safety issues I should know with respect to Watch Winders? Quality winders are generally safe for you watch, however cheap winders may not be. Price is the key to differentiate quality from garbage. One real important safety consideration is however if it has an AC/DC adapter make sure it is UL listed! (UL: Under Writer Laboratories.) Some cheap imports skip the expensive process of getting things UL rated, which could present a fire hazard. All winders we sell are UL listed and approved. This adds significantly to their cost. Underwriter Laboratories has probably saved more lives in the USA than penicillin! Just read Consumer Reports and you will hear similar advice, not about winders about other items. Consumer Reports will never evaluate Winders, the market is too small, but they do evaluate other devices with electrical supply and this is solid advice. I only recently realized the significance of this issue when my former neighbors' house burned down due to a "faulty ceiling fan" and one of my suppliers told me the same week he was having trouble getting a new winder on the market because he could not get UL approval! He suspected it would take another 6 months to a year! Ah Ha! A major hurdle to do things right eh? I don't feel bad about not selling cheap winders any more. Let the buyer beware! (Note: WatchCases.com does not sell Steinhousen Watchwinders, nor ERS watch winders.)

What should I consider with Battery Powered Winders? Some winders are made with battery power only. These are the cheapest to buy up front. But batteries cost money to replace, so battery life is a really important consideration. Cheap Winders burn thru batteries. Why? Because they do not have expensive circuitry to start and stop the winder and the winder runs all the time, in addition to inefficient circuits which waste power with excess heat. All winders we sell have good battery life. Most cheap winders on the market have 1-3 month battery life. Ours range from 6-8 months for the average battery life expectancy of our battery powered winders to 2 years for the Orbita Sparta model watch winders. Again you should know that many units on the market have battery life of only 1-3 months!

Why are your winders more expensive than those sold in some other internet stores? Why are Real Rolex Watches more expensive than counterfeits? Price and Quality must combine to give value! The winders we offer are the ones that provide value. I am a logical person, hopefully that comes thru in my writing and site design. Keep in mind the less an item costs the easier it is to sell. Don't you think if we could sell a watch winder that worked to actually wind a watch for under $100 we would offer to sell it along with the others?

Answer: You bet we would! But, the truth is winders at those price points simply do not work! We stand behind our products and we make our money only by selling quality watch winders and watch cases. The inside components of a quality automatic watch are expensive to build and the same hold for an automatic watch winder.

Why is battery power a good choice? Typically if you prefer to store your expensive watch in a safe a battery powered winder is needed. If you want to store your winder in a closet or a sock drawer a battery powered unit is a good idea. If you want to travel with the winder, battery powered units are usually more compact. Plus you never have to worry about loosing an adapter!

Why is a winder with an AC/DC adapter nice? In America electricity is abundant and cheap. A winder with an electrical cord saves the user the headaches associated with batteries (running dead unexpectedly and of course the need to replace them). People buy Automatic Watches after all because they hate batteries, or at least battery powered watches! Batteries go dead at inconvenient times.

How can I remember to change the batteries? I tell customers to change batteries in their winders when they change their smoke detector battery, every change of daylights savings time! ;-) For the Orbita Sparta Model change you batteries on even numbered New Years Celebrations. (Note: only the Orbita Sparta Models have 2 year battery life, all other Orbita models have standard 6 month battery life expectancy.)

Why are dual powered winders a good choice? Dual Powered Winders give you flexibility. You can stick the batteries in and shove the winder in a safe when you go on vacation and remove the batteries and plug the unit into the wall when you return. Plus if it is a gift it is hard to tell how the user will use his new gift, but flexibility has a cost. It costs more money to make a dual powered winder!

Why are dual powered winders so expensive? Dual power gives you flexibility, but it also adds to the expense of the winder.

Why don't large unit winders come with batteries? Most large multiple unit winders (3 or more) come with AC/DC adapters only since the battery drain would be UN sustainable and the one big advantage of battery power is small portability a large winder is not likely to be moved.

Do your Watch Winders have a warranty of at least 1 year? All the winders we sell come with a minimum 1 year warranty. Orbita Watch Winders have 2 year warranties. The industry standard is 1-3 month warranties. We feel this is not enough for such an important item! We recommend purchasing extended warranties even!

How can I evaluate a good winder and a bad winder? Look to pay about $150 to $300 per winder head and look for a warranty. Read the details on the winder, if the details emphasize the "beauty" and not the function or reliability there is a reason for the omission. Watch Winders are not simply Watch Boxes they both hold a watch and perform a mechanical task. Spinning a watch alone will not wind it. Watch Winders are mechanical devices which operate 24/7, not toasters that pop up after 30 seconds of work! We strongly recommend all customers sign up immediately for the Warranties on any winder you purchase, we sell the best winders and even these stop working sometimes!

One observation I have made about warranties is Manufacturers tend to offer warranties which cover the life expectancy of their winders. Orbita's basic warranty is 2 years, 24 months, most quality winders offer 12 months and inferior models offer from 30 days to nothing. Orbita and Eilux even sell extended warranties at reasonable price points for up to 5 years. What does this tell you? It should tell you they know their product is good for multiple years! Warranties are insurance policies and the way you make money selling warranties is if stuff does not break! These 2 companies make solid products!

My friend bought a $100 winder online and it works fine! Why should I spend 2 or 3 times that for a WatchCases.com winder? I hear this all the time. But then shortly afterwards I also talk to many customers who come back to buy that very same "expensive" winder after the other cheap gadget failed. Now they realize they were comparing apples and oranges. With Watch Winders, the reality is if you put a watch on a cheap inexpensive winder and never remove it 2 things will happen with absolute certainty. 1. The watch will stop. 2. The watch will break. Just because a device spins a watch does not mean it winds the watch and spinning a watch excessively will damage it. About 50% of my would be customers do not need a watch winder. (I have noticed by the way I am the only online Watch Winder retailer who says such blasphemy ???does not need a watch winder"...) These people wear 1 watch all day everyday and remove it only to sleep or go to the beach. Placing it on the Watch Spinner in naive confidence. These people put the watch on a cheap watch spinner and think the spinner is winding the watch, when in reality the watch itself is simply using the charge stored from having been worn all day. Any good watch will store extra charge and work fine for 24 hours and most will go upwards of 48 hours. It is only after returning from a Beach Vacation of 1-2 weeks that these people find out the Watch Spinner does not work as a Watch Winder. Sure it spins just fine, but their watch is dead. Our winders work. Sure your watch might gain or loose a few minutes time, but it will maintain the approximate time and date even after 6 months, not merely overnight. What more can I say?....

Which is the "Best" Watch Winder? Orbita,Buben & Zorweg and Elma make the "best" watch winder when you evaluate both quality of materials and reliability/function issues. However these 3 companies may not make a product that you can afford or that is right for your needs therefore we carry a large selection of Watch Winders. We only carry Top Rated Value Oriented Winders! The next best choice overall I think is the Everwell/Eilux/Fuzzy Logic Watch Winders. They make reliable winders with cheaper finish materials (for example a plastic case instead of a wood case or entry level leather instead of an Italian grade leather) but use top quality Japanese made movements inside. What???s inside is what counts in my view! We carry the Best Values in Watch Winders available anywhere. We are authorized dealers for all the brands we carry. We do not carry inferior products. Note: We do not carry Steinhausen Watch Winders and we do not carry ERS watch winders. We do carry the quality brands linked below: Our Best Selling Watch Winders All of ourAutomatic Watch Winders My vote for #1 Orbita Watch Winder Eilux Watch Winders Buben & Zorweg Watch Winders Rapport Watch Winders Venlo Watch Winder finally Wolf Designs Watch Winders

All of the above are excellent choices depending on your specific needs.

What factors are important when considering the purchase of a winder?

Aside from choosing a quality product one must match the product with the person... Basically you need to consider who, when, where, why and what. When you ask these simple questions before shopping the array of choices gets narrowed down very quickly and is less distracting and hence easier to decide. All the winders we carry are excellent winders, we do not carry junk. We have sorted the market for you in advance. Who will use it? When will it be needed? Where will it be stored? Why are you getting it? What watches will be wound?

We have done the homework of evaluating the market place, all you have to do is evaluate your situation and decide in confidence.

Who will use it? Answering "The who will use it?" will allow you to choose the most appropriate level of "styling"; cheap plastic, luxurious leather or classic wood.

When will it be needed? Answering "The When" will tell you if you need a quiet winder, a travel winder or just a basic winder. Answering "when" will also tell you if you need a winder rated for occasional winding or one rated for constant winding. Winders costing less than $200 are best for short term winding, while more expensive winders can do the job for months at a time.

If I buy and use a Watch Winder will I be able "to set and forget my watch"? No, "you can not set and forget." This is why the better winders like the Orbita Monaco Winder are equipped with an Atomic Digital Clock, minor time resetting may be needed depending on your watch wearing habits. (This is true of any winder. Automatic Watches are sensitive and a gain or loss of a few minutes must be expected. The more you pay the less fluctuation can be expected.) You should keep an eye on your watches and observe how they "keep time" on the winder. The winder setting may be wrong for your watch and need adjusted. However some watches simply drain power faster than any winder can keep up with. (Excluding the Orbita Sempre Winder, since Sempre winds the watch directly with the stem it can fully wind the watch.) Automatics are often called "Self Winding" this is a misnomer. True the automatic watch was originally invented and marketed by Rolex to assist the absent minded person (like me) who forgets to wind his stem wound watch on a daily basis, it needs you to move your wrist vigorously enough to maintain the wind. The primary market for these watches was the very active sailing community. However due to our sedentary lifestyles even the best automatic, worn daily, may need to be wound with its stem occasionally. This is also true when the watches are inside a watch winder. You should periodically remove your watch, set the time exactly and replace it in the winder.

Does paying more for a winder mean I am throwing money away? No, it does not. The inverse is actually true! Please also do not judge a winder by its cover! Like a good watch, the look is important, but not nearly as important as the movement, that is the mechanical part! There is a high correlation between price and performance with Watch Winders. Most people buy winders and they do not really need them. They put their watch on a winder each night, when all they would need to do is wind the stem each night. These people can get away with cheap winders which actually are doing very little actual winding, the watch itself is simply saving its own charge. Cheap winders do not have either the strong and expensive break proof mechanical parts, or expensive circuitry for operating the on and off cycles to the correct level.

Is Buying a cheap winder throwing hard earned money out the door? Yes it is! Look for value and performance. If your tastes are top notch, don't cheap out and get the Everwell Winder instead of the Orbita Winder to save a few dollars. You will be disappointed with the Everwell's finish. Do you drive a Chevrolet or a Mercedes? Fit and Finish suffer when you pay less. Some people do not care about Aesthetics, but don't expect to get "Great Works, Great Looks, and Great Price" in one unit! I rank these 3 elements as listed. I see competing products that cover 2 out of 3 looks and price, but they do not work! (However they do sell a ton of winders and reap a lot of contact information!) I sell products mostly meeting the criteria of Working and since it is the internal mechanism that adds the most to cost they are not the cheapest winders on the market! Don't be fooled.

Which 2 Winder Companies Offers the Best Value? Orbita mixes these 3 key elements for total value the best. (Works,Looks,Price. Orbita meets 2/3. Price being Orbita's weakness, since they neither compromise on Works or Looks! Their cheapest winder the Orbita Sparta is coincidently the ugliest, but it Works 100 times better than any other entry level winder!) Followed by Everwell/Eilux (They meet 2/3 of the Criteria, Eilux falls flat in the "Looks" department, skimping on fine finishing materials.) If quality works matters to you these are the top 2 choices. Orbita edges out the Eilux in terms of winding accurately with less resetting of the watch. If next quality looks matter to you Orbita puts more into the details of the external finish. Yes it costs more to get the best! Why America Shops at Wal-Mart I do not understand. For soap and can corn maybe, but electronics? Just read the contracts and you'll see shortcuts and substitute internal materials.

How exactly does a more expensive winder demand such outrageous prices? It is all about what is inside, the mechanics or movement of the winder is as important as the movement of the watch! Winders "maintain and extend" the watches power supply, but do not always do so at 100% capacity. Therefore, at times even the best winders will allow a watch to loose time. You should remove your watch at least weekly and reset it and wind the power supply to almost full. (Check your manual.) Without a winder such intervention would be needed every 2 days. It is very difficult for a winder to maintain every brand of watch to maximum efficiency. The more expansive the winder the less manual intervention which will be needed to keep an unworn watch wound. A winder will keep things ???close???but maybe not exact. Adjusting the time by ten minutes here or there is to be expected. However resetting the time and date every time you go to wear your watch will no longer be needed in a properly set watch winder. Minor adjustments only. The more you pay for a winder the better the performance you can expect, just like a watch! A watch you wear every other day or to an office daily would require the purchase of a less expensive winder than would a watch you wear once a month. The longer the winder needs to work uninterrupted the better it needs to be!

What Trade Offs are made with cheap winders? Trade offs between price and performance. Basically there are 3.

Trade off #1. For a winder to impart sufficient kinetic energy into the watch rotor to 100% charge it requires forceful stops and this results in high break down rates of the winder, or really expensive ball bearings to take the force. Soft stops and the winder lives, but the watch dies. Hard stops and you have to spend real money hidden inside the winder. Fast buck companies making cheap winders simply gamble on living out their 30 day warranty.

Trade off #2. Cheaper winders tend to have one winding setting and this often is not quite long enough for some watches for extended periods (in excess of 1 week). Cheap winders tend to run on batteries and long winding cycles drain batteries! They take short cuts to claim long battery life and this result is poor winding results. Sure stop is required, but brakes use energy, so most cheap winders coast to a stop. Energy is not transferred to the watch when coasting to a stop. Batteries are both not cheap and damaging to the environment, so the issue of battery life is nothing to ignore. Orbita, has emphasized and tested their winders for such issues. Personally I think these guys are nuts with their testing! But their obsession results in a fine long lived product and in the long run, the expensive winder might actually be the cheapest to own!

Trade off #3. Most cheap winders offer ???temporary life support???and if this is all you need, no problem a $200 winder will do the job. If the watches are worn regularly the winder only needs to provide life extending service. The less expensive winder does not have the expensive computer circuitry for changing winding times, or winding direction or maximizing battery life etc. Therefore cheap winders fail miserably at long term life and support, winding for over a week pushes a cheap winder to failure. The winder will still be spinning away, but the watch will have stopped completely. The winder simply does not impart enough inertial movement to the movement and the watch is not wound sufficiently. The trade offs are real, the more expensive winders have less trade offs. Buben and Zorweg make super tough highest quality products, with forceful stops and therefore cost much more than other products made with lesser materials. Buben puts their money into the exterior looks and the internal motor toughness. Orbita puts their money into the finesse and functionality side of the equation, both these options are expensive. Everwell punts totally on looks and simply provides an internal mechanism that will work for a long time. Wolf Designs attempts to juggle the whole equation and recently they have made huge gains on the other winders in terms of reliability. Like wise Rapport Watch Winders has improved the reliability. Seems the good companies recognize it is all about what???s inside!

Where will it be stored? Answering "The Where" will help with the decision if it needs to be a boxed/covered winder or an open model. For dust protection. If it needs to be Battery Powered, Electric Powered or both, that is dual powered. Finally "where will it be store?" will tell you the level of Style needed. A bedroom dresser, a closet, a sock drawer, a safe; all are common storage areas.

Finally the why and what.

Why are you getting it? Why are you getting it? Frustration with the watch being totally unwound for the weekend activity. The time is wrong (way off not minutes), the date is wrong. Or maybe it is for the health of a collection of watches? Winders allow watches to ???exercise??? The longer the time untouched on the winder the more expensive a unit you will need.

What watches will be wound? What is being wound? 1, 2, or 3 different brands? The more variety of winding needs the more expensive winder you will need.

Which is the Best Watch Winder for you?

It depends on your needs and budget. This is a mechanical device, with internal movements and just like a mechanical watch there is a correlation between price and quality. Would anyone argue that a counterfeit or Rolex "wannabe" is as good as a real Rolex? (except for those crooks sending us 200 spam emails each week!;) A fake might "look good" from a distance, but a real Rolex is worth every penny! Quality Mechanical Watch Winders likewise are worth every penny paid to protect the Automatic Watch within.

The correlation between price paid, quality and performance is even greater with winders since they are not mass produced as are some watches and do not carry the price tags of fine watches. Any of the 6 brands we carry are good choices, they all will safely wind any watch and do so for a long time without needing replacement or repair. This can not be said of a lot of cheaper winders now on the market!

Will one of your WatchCases.com watch winders damage or "over wind" my watch? No, it is not likely that any of our watch winders will damage your watch. (This can not be said of other winders on the market. If they were any good we would sell them!) None of our winders run continuously and most are programmable. Watch Winders are in fact a rather inefficient way to wind a watch, over winding is more likely by hand. Ironically this warning is oft repeated in the watch winder world yet; in 1931 Rolex introduced the innovation of the self winding watch to protect mechanical watches! (People tend to over wind watches by hand when they have wound totally down and stopped working. Maintenance winding people are good with not over doing the wind. Thinking "Hmmm, one more, hush, good turn"...baling! a spring breaks!)One of the things the automatic watch invention did was protecting a mechanical watch from being "over wound" by hand, a common problem at the time. The Watch Winder has been used for years in the Watch and Jewelry repair trades to test repairs. Only recently have winders been made available to the general public.

What company makes the best winder to protect my watches? Orbita, has the most flexible 100% programmable winders on the market to protect your watches from being over wound and this protection is a bit more expensive. Even Orbita???s entry level model, the Sparta is far superior to the competition.

If you have an expensive watch collection with a variety of movement settings and can afford to purchase an Orbita Winder I would encourage you to do so. If you can not afford "the best", all the winders I sell are safe. Some general guiding principles? If you only have one brand of watch you can get by with spending less. (Believe it or not you can actually spend much more and purchase a Scatola Del Tempo or Underwood Watch Winder! I do not sell Scatola Del Tempo and I do not sell Underwood. I think both are excellent products, but I think the Orbita is a better product and I know it is a better value!)

If anything our watch winders should actually protect your investment since it will prevent the lubricants inside the watch from settling and leaving parts unprotected when restarted. (This "settling" phenomenon is similar to a car left in storage. Click and Clack (the MIT graduates who host the popular National Public Radio program "Car Talk".) recommend periodically restarting and running cars left in storage. Many of my customers own watches more expensive than the cars discussed on "Car Talk"!

Which Automatic Watch Winder is best for your needs? Individuals vary in what is important.

If all you need is "something that will work at the best price" for occasional winding. Get an Everwell Cylinder Winder or get an Eilux Cubic Winder or get the Orbita Sparta Watch Winder. (Listed in increasing price, the Sparta actually will also work on winding a watch constantly. Months at a time.)

The cheaper winder units tend to be made with a plastic outside case and plastic watch holders, as you move up in price the materials used go up in quality and price reflects that. However, the other thing is as you move up in price you get a more robust winder. The entry level Everwell Cylinder Winder, does great winding a watch which is worn only occasionally. Say once a week. However I do not recommend these units for someone wanting a watch wound non stop for weeks or months at a time. The Orbita Sparta is the only entry level winder I recommend for winding a watch for a month or more untouched. Please do not let the fact the Everwell Cylinder/Cubic is plastic dissuade you, the internal movement is sound! They do offer the same winders with leather exteriors , which do nothing for the winding ability, however many people feel the unit is of a higher quality, me, I think it is just more expensive...We do not carry other "cheap" watch winders because we have found and many of our customers have found "the hard way" they do not work! (Or at least not for long!) Note: We do not carry Steinhausen Watch Winders and we do not carry ERS watch winders.

Does this sentence describe you?

"I am a klutz I can not program my toaster" which winder is best for me?

Most owners of mechanical watches are mechanically inclined. (Some to the point of obsession, I have customers who take their Rolex apart for fun!) However, many customers have watches received as gifts or purchased because they did not want to deal with the hassle of changing a watch battery! If this describes you the only winder you should consider is an Orbita Sparta model. Why? Because the Sparta's unique patented design allows you to pop your watch on and not fuss with any buttons or settings and know your watch will be properly wound just as if you were wearing it on your wrist. Another bonus for "battery change phobic people" is the Sparta design allows it to run for 2 years on regular "D Cell" batteries! Sparta model for 2 watches. Sparta model within a beautiful Wooden Box.

Dependability? Which Winders are the most dependable? Orbita has a 2 year Warranty; the others have 1 year warranties. Orbita, Buben & Zorweg, Everwell/Eilux has similar return/dependability records for us at WatchCases.com close to 0%. Rapport and Wolf Designs do very well also but we have experienced a higher rate of problems/returns, closer to 2% (Two percent, not 20%! Only 2!). Compare this with the Industry Average of 10% or more and the defect rate on cheaper units running 25-50% and you see all the products we carry are Excellent Dependability choices! You also see why we do not carry those "cheap winders". We believe you get what you pay for. Orbita and Buben get the nod from us for Ultimate Dependability, with Buben barely beating out both Orbita and Everwell/Eilux. However Wolf Designs and Rapport are far better than EFS Winders or Steinhousen Winders or any other cheap winders sold in gadget magazines or anywhere on the market! This is a mechanical device, don't buy a Yugo! Stick with Buben, Orbita or Everwell/Eilux for top rated dependability, followed closely by Wolf Designs and Rapport for top quality value. Do not buy a used winder, no matter who made it!

If you need a watch winder because you own a Rolex? This is easy, any of the 4 mentioned brands will work, since Rolex is the watch which most winders are designed to wind! Why? Simply because Rolex sells a lot of automatic watches. But most Rolex people tend to buy Orbita or Everwell/Eilux winders. Either the Orbita Sparta Watch Winder, Orbita's Bellino Watch Winder is very popular with Rolex Owners as is Orbita Siena Watch Winder and any of the Everwell/Eilux Watch Winders for their Rolex watches.

If you need a quiet winder. If you are planning on placing it on the dresser, get an Everwell Winder , Wolf Designs or Orbita Winder. (Everwell and Orbita run very quietly, Wolf Designs can be set to not run during your sleep cycle so it is probably the quietest for sleeping despite being the loudest operating winder. It is barely noticeable however, even if it is running while you sleep. This is not true of the vast majority of winders on the market today! Most winders are rather loud. All winders mentioned on this page run quietly, these 3 are just the quietest.

If you need to "have the best" get an Orbita or a Buben & Zorweg. I think Orbita makes the best winder in the world. They have been unbelievably supportive of WatchCases.com and our customers when anything has gone wrong or been found to be defective. Maybe it is just because we are the most important watch winder sales site in the world, no matter, they make a solid product!

If "Made in America" is important to you. Orbita Watch Winders are the only choice.American design with world wide Patents, Swiss Movements, (hence their dependability & quality). Orbita operates from Wilmington NC and Europe based ORBITA WATCHWINDER GmbH in Austria. Do a patent search on watch winders, Chuck Agnoff the President of Orbita holds almost all of the major patents. (Also note we only carry products which have legitimate patent rights to manufacturing Watch Winders.) Many Cheap Winders are usurping other patent rights, please do not help these companies destroy American Industry! We refuse to carry their products, but the consumer is the final protection. People complain about jobs being sent over seas, but they keep shopping for those cheap imitation or fake products.

If "Made in Europe" is important to you. Buben & Zorweg is made in part in Austria and in part in Germany. Austrian Boxes with German movements. In addition as mentioned above Orbita Watchwinders also has a facility in Austria.

If "Made in China" is important to you. Get the Everwell, Eilux Watch Winder or Wolf Designs. The Eilux/Everwell box is made in Hong Kong with a Japanese movement, hence its dependability. Wolf Designs has a Hong Kong factory where they make their fine products.

If you need a Winder and a storage compartment for other watches. You have a number of choices, some more expensive than others. Buben & Zorweg makes The President and The Executive , Orbita makes the Monaco, Wolf Designs makes a nice winder/storage case and Evewell's Double Winder has a storage area in the lid.

Do you travel? Get an Everwell Cubic .

Do you store your watches in a safe for long periods of time? Do you need long battery life? Get an Orbita Sparta Winder, for its long battery life. (Projected at 2 years for most watches.)

Or get an Everwell Cylinder if price is a deterrent, a good compromise. (This is the least expensive watch winder on the market that actually works! A good value, but not "too good too be true"!)(Everwell has about 1 year life on batteries, the Orbita Sparta 2 years.) Most other winders last only for 3-6 months with battery power. (Makes a lot of cheap winders expensive very fast! In addition when the battery dies, the winder stops winding the watch and all you have is an expensive box! Change batteries when you change the clock for daylight savings time and you never risk batteries dying.

Do you despise changing batteries? Get a winder with an A/C power supply.

Do you need a solid versatile winder with a power cord and battery power? Get a Wolf Designs Watch Winder or a Cubic Titanium Everwell watch winder with the adapter.

Do you need something pretty? Get an Orbita Winder or a Buben Watch Winder or a Rapport Watch Winder. The Orbita Bellino or the Orbita Siena or any of the Buben & Zorweg Winders we carry.

Which Automatic Watch Winder is best for your husband?

Men prefer either high end luxury (Buben & Zorweg watch winders, Orbita Siena Winders) or low end price/functionality (Everwell watch winders, Orbita Sparta Winders)or functionality and versatility the winder with the reputation for being the best watch winder in the world? Orbita Watch Winders.

What makes your "man tick"? All 6 Watch Winders mentioned are superior to any other winders on the market. Each has its own advantage. So what makes your man tick? What makes you tick? Does Price drive him? Get an Everwell. Does snob appeal/class drive him? Get a Buben & Zorweg winder, or Orbita. Does "the best gizmo" drive him? Get an Orbita Winder, Orbita is by far the company with a commitment to winders which are the most programmable and precise. The Porsche of the winder family if you will... Does "cutting edge fashion" drive him? Get Buben & Zorweg new Elma Pear Shaped Double Winder.

What makes your "woman tick"? All 6 Watch Winders mentioned are superior to any other winders on the market. Each has its own advantage. So what makes your woman tick? What makes you tick? Does Price drive her? Get an Everwell. Does snob appeal/class drive her? Get a Buben & Zorweg winder, or Orbita. Does "the best gizmo" drive her? Get an Orbita Winder, Orbita is by far the company with a commitment to winders which are the most programmable and precise. The Porsche of the winder family if you will... Does "cutting edge fashion" drive her? Get Buben & Zorweg's new Elma Pear Shaped Double Winder.

Which Automatic Watch Winder is best for quietness?

The Everwell Watch Winder is the overall quiet winner, however Orbita is a close second. (As mentioned earlier since one can set the Wolf Designs Module 2.0 to go dormant while you are sleeping it also is a contender for the people who wake up at the slightest sound.

Which Automatic Watch Winder is best for Style?

I think Buben & Zorweg Watch Winders have the edge in style and Orbita Watch Winders are a close second.

Which Watch Winder to wind a bunch of watches? Well, the new Wolf Designs,4 Watch Winder or 6 Watch Winder or Large 8 watch winder are all good winders priced competitively. But Orbita makes the best large multiple watch watchwinder on the market in my opinion (price not being a consideration, just quality wise). Some other companies make beautiful large winders, but the quality is suspect and we do not offer their products.

You only have 3 watches? Well, price wise the Everwell Triple Winder has an edge, but Orbita is the best again, when all factors are given equal weight.

Educational Points about Automatic Watches and Automatic Watch Winders

Point #1.)Different Watches require different settings for winding direction. 3 settings exist CW: Clock Wise. CCW: Counter Clock Wise and Bi-Directional meaning it winds in both directions CW and CCW. Most Rolex watches need Bi-Directional Winding as do the majority of watches. Most winders are factory set on bi-directional winding as a default.

Point #2.) Different Watches require different Ideal (TPD) Turns Per Day settings. Bidirectional is the most common setting. (Note: Over winding a watch by a few hundred TPD will not hurt it, all modern Automatic Watches are built with a "slip differential" which prevents this minor over winding, other wise nervous people could never wear an automatic watch. However severe over winding should be avoided. You can't over wind an automatic watch. Manual over winding of any manual watch is a bad thing and can damage the watch. A watch which requires 600 TPD will work fine if wound say 1200 TPD. However this may concern an owner of an expensive watch. Orbita Watch Winders take the most care making winders programmable for your watches exact needs. This programmability is expensive however.

Point #3.) Constant Winding with out a rest period is bad for a watch. Cheap Winders tend to wind 24 x 7. Sitting unwound for years is also bad for an automatic watch! Opinions vary with regard to this last point about sitting around, however we think mechanical watches should be used and kept in working order. (We also recommend that you visit a reliable watch repairman on a regular basis for tune-ups. These things (automatic watches) cost as much as some cars, you get your car serviced I hope!)

Point #4.) Putting a Bi-directional Watch on a cheap one directional Winder is bad for the watch. Why? Bi-Directional Automatic Watches are designed for that alternating direction and on a cheap winder it would not be getting the alternate direction. Plus eventually the watch will run out of stored power.

Read other opinions about Watch Winders. This site is very interesting and informative. The link will open in a page of its own.

Where do you buy your watch winder? Only one place, here at www.WatchCases.com!

Why? We are the only store committed to selling all of the best brands of watch cases and watch winders, not just one or 2 brands! We are authorized dealers for all the products we sell. Not only that, but most of our suppliers bend over backwards to give us extra service because of our reputation in this niche. Finally, if something goes wrong we will work to fix it. We think our service warrants a premium price, however we strive to be competitive with legitimate retailers.

We have seen every brand and we carry the best quality, best value winders available in the world today!

We stand behind our products and our suppliers stand behind us. We sell at competitive prices yet not at "soon to be out of business" prices. We make money selling watch cases and watch winders not selling customer information. We do not make our money selling your information, email, telephone number or address. We treat our customer???s right and they tell their friends, please become one of our customers today and then please tell your friends!

Thank you for reading my rambling, I hope it helps you decide on the correct winder, and I hope you buy from us as our thank you for taking the time to educate you. We want you to buy the product which is best for you, not just the one that makes us the most money. Should you find someone online selling these products, or any products at prices "too good to pass up"/"too good to be true" read this US Dept. of Justice Internet Fraud Article first. (Note: Article will open in a new browser window.) We have spent a considerable amount of time, effort and money designing an online store that is secure and trustworthy. We realized along the way that we would not be able to compete with "low ball pricing" no service websites, and we decided our customer was not likely to purchase from such a site. We offer excellent products at fair prices. However we are not the cheapest place to buy and we make no apology for that. We promise you our best service and we thank you for shopping with us. Now save your time and order a winder from us today!

How do I decide where to buy my new Watch Case or Watch Winder Box? Since most jewelers carry few if any watch cases and watch winders the internet is your primary area of focus.

Thanks.
