Montblanc przedstawił na SIHH kolekcję "Villeret 1858” opartą na werkach Minervy, które odtąd będą królowały w zegarkach tej znanej z produkcji piór marki. Muszę przyznać, że bardzo mnie to cieszy, bo lubię produkty z białą gwiazdką. Powiem tylko: Wow :shock: .

Eterna Vaughan Big Date

 

Eterna’s masterpiece

 

With the Eterna Vaughan Big Date, Eterna has returned to the old-fashioned virtues of watchmaking and

produces a watch with an own manufacture calibre. The new Eterna movement provides the function of a

unique big date display. In terms of appearance, Eterna remains true to its tradition of elegance and sim-

plicity.

 

Eterna has a tradition of elegant men’s watches, such as the new Eterna Vaughan Big Date. The Eterna Cen-

tenaire of 1956 and the Eterna·Matic 3000 Dato of 1962 were both watches for men of style. In its day, the

Eterna calibre 1504 movement used in these watches broke all sales records. The calibre 1504 has now

provided the model for a new Eterna movement. A young team of watchmakers and design engineers have

developed the new Eterna 3030. The Eterna creators have achieved a world record with their very first at-

tempt. The automatic movement with big date display function is the slimmest in its class.

 

 

The cambered big date display

 

In big date display movements, the date is displayed in large numerals on two separate discs. For the dis-

play of the date, one of the discs carries the units, while the other carries the tens. A two-disc system allows

the use of larger numerals, thereby enhancing the legibility of the date. In the case of the Eterna 3030, an

outer disc carries the unit numbers for every day of the month. A small disc, arranged further inside, carries

the four necessary digits for the tens display. The Eterna calibre 3030 shows a convex profile on both sides,

in the form of a lens. The two discs of the date display blend seamlessly into the cambered surface of the

movement. They are designed, not as a conventional arrangement of two flat and horizontal discs posi-

tioned one above the other, but as two cambered rings, which rotate next to each other.

 

 

High-speed changeover, high-speed setting

 

The big date display of the Eterna Vaughan Big Date has a fast-acting calendar function, and will change at

midnight within less than one second. In contrast with the majority of conventional movements, the switch

mechanism allows both the time and date to be adjusted at any time. The rotational impulse for the tens

disc is generated directly by the units disc of the date display. In order to achieve a slim-line movement, the

engineers at Eterna have developed a ball bearing-mounted date disc with integral gear toothing. In accor-

dance with conventional practice, the date is adjusted manually using the winding button. Rotating the

crown through 360° will adjust the date by two days. Setting the date is both fast and straightforward.

 

High-tech components

 

The basic movement is closely modelled on the Eterna Kaliber 1504 from the 1960s. However, this model

has been thoroughly overhauled by the design engineers. Ease of maintenance and the lifetime of the

movement have been significantly enhanced. The movement can be fully dismantled, allowing the re-

placement of each individual component. A photolithographic process has been used for the production of

the main components. This method allows the high-precision creation of complex forms of small dimen-

sions, which are generally responsible for key functions in a watch movement. The photolithographic proc-

ess delivers components of an extremely hard nickel or nickel-phosphor alloy, which is barely to wear.

 

 

Movements incorporating components of this type are distinguished by their exceptionally long lifetime.

High-technology notwithstanding, the creative and traditional metalworking skills of the watchmaker are

well represented. The bridges of the Eterna calibre 3030 are rhodanized and decorated with a combination

of “Perlage” and “ColimaÓon”. The rotor sparkles with a dazzlingly beautiful “CÓtes de Geneve“ finish.

 

Slim-line elegance

 

The brilliantly designed interior of the Eterna Vaughan Big Date is mirrored in its outward appearance. The

lens shaped movement is reflected in the cambered dial and the smooth outlines of the case. The fine de-

tails, the clear markings and the straight Dauphine hands are all elements of sophisticated design.

 

The Eterna Vaughan Big Date is available in polished stainless steel or polished rose gold. The stainless steel

model comes with an anthracite dial and a black crocodile skin strap, while the rose gold case combines a

silver dial with a brown crocodile skin strap. The market launch of the Vaughan Big Date by Eterna is sched-

uled for autumn 2007.

opis:

The hand-wound movement measures elapsed times from one hundredth of a second to 10 minutes on three dials, each with a time scale in red and a tachometer scale in black. The tachometer scales convert times into speeds ranging from 6 km/h — walking pace — to 360,000 km/h, well above the escape velocity of a rocket going into low-level orbit.

The flying-seconds hand at 10 o’clock goes around the dial in one second against a scale marked in hundredths of a second, making it theoretically possible to time an object moving at 360,000 km/h, or approximately 1/3000ths of the speed of light. On the dial at 2 o’clock, the hand goes around in 20 seconds and the time scale is marked in seconds. The outer tachometer scale shows the speed against odd numbers of seconds — 1, 3, 5, etc. — while the inner scale corresponds to the even numbers of seconds. The third dial, at 6 o’clock, where the hand goes around in 10 minutes, has a similar tachometer scale with speeds corresponding to 20-second markers. Thus a kilometre travelled in three minutes 40 seconds represents a speed of 16.4 km/h (to one decimal place).

The chronograph is started, stopped and zeroed by a rocker at 2 o’clock in the caseband instead of the usual buttons on either side of the crown — an ergonomic solution that has been granted a patent. The rocker turns a column-wheel that activates the levers in the start, stop and zero sequence in the conventional way.

A second patent has been granted for the ingenious configuration of the mechanism, which effectively isolates the chronograph from the timekeeping function. This means the amplitude of the balance is unaffected when the chronograph is running. This is achieved by using a single mainspring that unwinds at both ends, driving the chronograph trains from the barrel arbor, and the going train of the movement from the barrel itself. (This is similar to the mainspring system used in the Sonnerie Souveraine clockwatch). The one-second counter and the 20-seconds counter are driven by two wheel-trains departing in either direction from a single intermediate wheel working off the barrel arbor. A separate train of wheels, also driven by the barrel arbor, moves the 10-minutes chronograph hand.

The high-speed, flying seconds, released by the escapement of the watch, jumps around the dial 16 times a second. A wheel, mounted on the fourth wheel of the movement engages a pinion carrying the flying-seconds hand. This means that the flying seconds are driven by both the going train of the movement, working off the barrel, and the chronograph train, working off the barrel arbor. One ingenious feature of the flying-seconds hand is that it can be stopped anywhere along its one-second journey around its dial, even between two 100th-second divisions, enabling an approximate fractional reading. This is done by vertically disengaging the pinion of the flying seconds from the escapement. A device converting lateral movement into vertical movement pushes the pinion down onto a brake.

The 20-seconds hand and the 10-minutes hand are zeroed by hammer levers acting on snail cams. This eliminates the play inherent in the conventional heart-pieces while ensuring that the two hands return to zero anti-clockwise. The flying-seconds hand is stopped at zero by a beak protruding from its pinion coming against a lever.

Maintaining power ensures that the watch can be wound without interrupting the driving power to the movement or running chronograph. The mainspring delivers at least 90 hours of power reserve, and 45 hours with the chronograph running.
